Position Overview: The Mathematics Teacher at Pinnacle Charter School is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging mathematics instruction within a competency-based educational framework. Using the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum as a foundation, this individual will guide students through a problem-based learning approach that builds conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application skills. The Mathematics Teacher will differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs), and contribute to a school culture where every student feels known, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Key Responsibilities: • Plan and deliver standards-aligned mathematics instruction for grades 7–12 using the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum framework, emphasizing problem-based learning and conceptual understanding. • Create a classroom environment rooted in curiosity, respect, and high expectations where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and engage in productive struggle. • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of all students, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, and English language learners. • Design and implement competency-based assessments that measure student mastery of mathematical concepts, reasoning, and application, providing meaningful feedback that drives student growth. • Develop and facilitate Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs), independent projects, and real-world mathematical applications that connect classroom learning to students’ lives and interests. • Integrate technology and the school’s Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Learning Lab into mathematics instruction to enhance engagement and deepen understanding. • Collaborate with fellow teachers on interdisciplinary curriculum design, project-based learning, and Flexible Friday programming. • Maintain accurate records of student progress within the competency-based grading system and contribute to Individual Learning Plan (ILP) development in partnership with the Guidance Counselor. • Participate actively in the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), contributing to early identification and intervention for students who need additional academic or behavioral support. • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, classroom activities, and opportunities for engagement in their student’s mathematics education. • Engage in ongoing professional development, including training in curriculum programs, competency-based practices, and innovative instructional strategies. • Contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture by participating in school events, student advisory, and community-building activities.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, a related quantitative field, or Education with a mathematics concentration. • New Hampshire teaching certification in mathematics is valued but not required; candidates without certification who demonstrate strong content knowledge and a passion for teaching will be fully considered. • Experience teaching or mentoring adolescents in a formal or informal educational setting is preferred. • Demonstrated enthusiasm for mathematics and a genuine commitment to fostering confidence and a love of learning in every student. • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students and to see and respond to each learner as an individual. • Familiarity with problem-based, inquiry-driven, or competency-based instructional approaches is a plus. • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a small, close-knit teaching team. • Comfort with integrating technology into instruction and a willingness to learn new tools and platforms. • Flexibility, creativity, and a growth mindset—a willingness to iterate, reflect, and continuously improve one’s practice.
